About us

ADIRONDACK ATHLETICS, LLC

What started as two veterans of the industry looking to solve a problem for a friend has turned into a small but thriving business of not just helping old friends but also helping new friends.  We were asked to find a home for some used basketball equipment...

Mike Kruse

Mike started his career in basketball in 1974 as an equipment installer.  He shortly started his own installation service company and began installing basketball equipment nationwide.  In 1983, he moved into the manufacturing management side of the equipment spending three years in Mississippi.  Missing New York, he moved back and began training new construction dealers and installers for a national manufacturer.  After doing this and traveling the country extensively he made the decision to open The Kruse Company and again began installing and servicing basketball equipment in primarily the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic area.  In 1996, he was given the opportunity to join Jaypro Sports as the senior project manager helping to design their line of basketball equipment.  In 2007, Spalding hired him away to become the Eastern Business Manager for Spalding Equipment.  Retiring from Spalding in 2013, he went back to consulting on the design/installation of private sports facilities.  In 2014, along with Dan Shaw, Adirondack Athletics was started, and here we are today.  The premier company offering only the highest quality Spalding and Schelde portable basketball stanchions for rent or purchase.

Dan Shaw

Dan has been designing, selling and installing basketball equipment since 1980.  Primarily working as an engineer designing developing all types of basketball equipment.  Most recently though, he was the National Sales Manager for Spalding Equipment.  While in this capacity, he identified a need for the availability of portable backstops in a number of instances where the purchase of new units was not feasible.  Having first been approached to find used stanchions for a school which needed backstops for only a short period of time, that problem was solved and Adirondack Athletics, LLC was born.  With extensive contacts throughout the industry from the NBA down to small schools, Adirondack Athletics has been able to build an inventory of used, refurbished equipment for rental or sale.  Our primary goal is to supply only the highest quality backstops to those customers who either only need units for a short period of time or who have no space to store them during the off season.  We also sell refurbished units for a fraction of the cost of a new unit.  If you ever find yourself in need of a portable basketball backstop for a tournament (MAAC FanFest), a photo shoot (HBO Productions) or even just a backdrop (FOX SPORTS), call us and we will help you fill your need.

Why are we different?

While there are other companies which may sell used equipment, Adirondack Athletics is the only company which refurbishes all of our equipment BEFORE it leaves our shop.  All of our customers know that when they receive either a purchased or rented backstop from us, it will arrive in pristine condition ready for play or display.  We power wash and touch up paint the units, rebuild and re-cover the padding, and replace worn parts just to make the portables look and play like new.
